week 8: nevermind we are so down

 4/23

Since I missed one week due to a family emergency, I'm making this post my last one!

Well I wish I could say that I'm ending the semester off on a high note with a healthy, fully grown white strawberry plant but I sadly forgot to water Bertram yet again and he's severely wilted since the last blog post. That being said, he's still very green though so the possibility of him coming back to life is still very much a reality -- too bad you won't be here to see it.

It was a fun and eventful 8 weeks raising Bertram. If we were to count actual days where I had taken care of him it'd be more like 8 days but I'm not being graded on plant health here so it's alright. Technically the morality rate amongst plants raised by Chinese people whose names start with Fa- is still above 0% so I'll take it as a win!

I joke about it a lot, but I honestly do wish I had been a better parent to Bertram. Seeing him grow throughout these two months was really rewarding: even my roommates, who I barely interact with, have noticed him and talk about his progress.

I'd like to blame my incompetency all on outside factors but a good 90% of it was all my fault. I should've watered him more, I should've cut off the runners, I should've gotten someone to take care of him while I was gone, etc., but the past is in the past. The good thing about Bertram is that he's not an actual child and I feel significantly less bad about torturing a strawberry plant than I do a human baby.

I'm not sure if I'll be taking Bertram home once the semester officially ends; having a potted plant let loose in a car with all my belongings is not exactly ideal conditions for me -- it's why Bertram ended up in the living room instead of my dorm room in the first place.

While I may not stay with Bertram much longer, I'll always remember the times that we have spent together, forever! Or at least as long as my attention span lasts.
